Burgin mayor breaks tie to give city control over data center proposal

Burgin Mayor Joseph Monroe cast the deciding vote after the Kentucky city’s council split 2-2 on whether to rejoin the Mercer County joint planning and zoning commission, according to LEX 18 News.

The decision gives Burgin a path toward greater oversight of Project Bluegrass, a proposed 950-acre data center development that has faced months of opposition from residents concerned about farmland, water, noise and environmental impacts.

Monroe said the city needs regulations before moving forward with development. The council also voted not to consider annexing land until Burgin joins the commission. The decision does not block the data center outright.
