Dozens of Kentuckians from across the state flocked to Frankfort to tell a panel of lawmakers how they feel about data centers and what they want the state legislature to do about them.
Issues ranged from pollution and environmental concerns—particularly when it came to data centers’ impact on farmland, horses, and bourbon—to frustrations over government officials’ actions or inactions.
Kentucky’s Republican-dominated state legislature fell short of passing data center regulations or protections for ratepayers during its 2026 legislative session, but it did pass massive tax breaks for data center developers during its 2025 session—something several speakers want to see repealed.
Kentucky’s 2027 legislative session starts in January.
