Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate Charles Booker put Republican Rep. Andy Barr on the spot over his past support for congressional term limits. During their Oct. 19 Senate debate, Booker accused Barr of breaking promises and questioned why he was seeking another office after years in Congress.
Barr began responding by returning to the moderator’s original question rather than immediately addressing Booker’s challenge.
And there’s a documented history behind the exchange: In February 2013, Barr introduced a proposed constitutional amendment that would limit House and Senate members to 12 consecutive years in office. The proposal was never enacted. Now, after serving in the House since 2013, Barr is seeking the Senate seat being vacated by longtime Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell.
