Kentucky Rep. Savannah Maddox said she’s hearing from constituents who are uncomfortable with automated license plate readers tracking where people go and storing their private information.
Kentucky put its first statewide rules on ALPR cameras in place earlier this year, but some lawmakers are already pushing for tighter limits. One proposal would require police to get a warrant before searching the systems. The debate has also been fueled by repeated misuse of Flock cameras in places like Louisville, including unauthorized immigration-related searches.
