A Kentucky veteran came prepared with questions for Rep. Andy Barr, asking what the Republican congressman would do to put “guardrails” on President Donald Trump’s conduct.
But Barr wasn’t in the room.
The veteran instead delivered his questions toward an empty chair reserved for the congressman. The Sept. 3 Lexington event was organized as an “empty chair” town hall by Stand Up for Science and several Kentucky advocacy groups. Organizers said Barr was invited and had not confirmed that he would attend, and described the event as a response to a years-long absence of in-person town halls from the congressman.
