A Burgin City Council member walked out of a packed meeting, costing the council its quorum and stopping a vote that could have restarted the annexation process for a proposed data center in Mercer County.
Council member Melinda Wofford told the Kentucky Lantern that she left intentionally. The council had been preparing to vote on whether to have the city attorney draft a new annexation ordinance for land where Panattoni Data Centers wants to build the project. More than 100 people attended the meeting, with residents raising concerns about noise, air quality, and the potential impact of the development.
