Do you know who represents you in Frankfort? What about Washington, DC?
Don’t know? Aren’t sure? Think you know but haven’t checked in a bit?
No judgement either way: Here’s a quick guide to see who currently represents you in the state legislature in Frankfort, as well as in Kentucky’s federal delegation to DC.
How to find your Kentucky state lawmakers
Each Kentuckian gets two state lawmakers: a state senator and a state representative.
Both are determined by where you live. State senate districts are larger because the state is divided up amongst 38 senators, versus dividing things up between 100 house seats.
The easiest way to check both is to head to the Legislative Research Commission’s website and plug in your address. The LRC is the nonpartisan group that helps Kentucky’s legislature run, and their lawmaker locator tool will show you your state representative and senator.
The LRC’s tool will also give you links to your lawmakers’ profile pages. Here, you can see all of the bills they’ve sponsored, what committees they sit on, a short bio, and several ways to contact them.
How to find your Kentucky representative in DC
Kentucky has two senators who represent the entire state in Washington, DC, plus six seats in Congress that are determined based on where you live.
To find your member of Congress, plug in your ZIP code to this tool from the US House of Representatives.
It’ll then show you who your representative is, along with a map of the larger congressional district. There may also be links to the representative’s main website and a way to contact their office.
